Charles said the eviction package had been hidden inside hundreds of digital documents.
Mrs. Doyle answered, “A tenant misses one page and loses a home. A chairman misses twenty families and keeps his title.”
He resigned from Ashford Hospitality and surrendered his voting rights pending review.
Vivian called the gesture theatrical.
“You built this family with me.”
“No,” Nora said. “Workers built it. You decorated the result.”
The council stopped the evictions and traced the refinance money to a luxury senior residence owned by Vivian’s brother, Judge Malcolm Grant. Elaine had lived there under a restrictive financial guardianship after challenging the trust withdrawals.
Nora called the residence.
Elaine answered but refused rescue by the Ashfords.
“I will leave when a court recognizes that I was never incompetent.”
Her medical evaluation had been signed by Dr. Samuel Hale, Nora’s estranged father.
Nora had believed he died when she was a child.
Charles lowered his head.
“Samuel is alive too.”
