Chapter 2 - THE DOCTOR WHO HELPED SILENCE HER.
Richard claimed Emily had approved the no-contact petition while recovering from surgery.
Emily looked directly at him.
“I was sedated, not absent from my own life.”
The family attorney said the order protected her from exploitation after Marcus lost his construction job.
Marcus answered, “You saw unemployment and decided it proved bad character. When your company laid me off, you called it restructuring.”
Guests shifted uncomfortably. Richard owned the development firm that had terminated Marcus after he requested wheelchair access in one of its apartment projects.
Emily had been injured months later in a traffic collision and now used a wheelchair. Marcus had tried to visit, but every hospital call was blocked.
A nurse who had attended the gala stepped forward.
“Emily asked for him repeatedly. Her chart was later changed to say she refused visitors.”
Richard blamed hospital staff.
Then the attorney opened the medical-access form.

The approving doctor was Emily’s fiancé, Dr. Nathan Cole.
