Chapter 8 - THE BLACK ARCHITECT ERASED FROM THE COMPANY.

Richard denied being Marcus’s father and called Grace’s diary the fantasies of a dying woman.
DNA testing confirmed no biological relationship.
But the diary revealed another secret: Marcus’s mother, Lillian Brooks, had co-founded Ashford Development before being erased from its history.
Lillian was a Black architect whose accessible housing designs won the firm its first federal contracts. Richard’s father listed her as a junior consultant and transferred her equity after she died.
Marcus had grown up believing his mother left only debt.
He looked at the Ashford crest.
“My mother designed the buildings your family used to keep me outside.”
Richard claimed Lillian signed away her shares.
The contract paid her one dollar and threatened to cancel housing for her employees if she refused.
Emily rejected any automatic transfer of power to Marcus.
“His mother’s theft must be repaired, but suffering does not make either of us sole owner.”
Then investigators found Lillian’s original blueprints inside Richard’s safe.
