Chapter 4 - THE CHILD WHO OWNED THE FROZEN FARM.
The original deed showed Emma’s grandfather left the farmhouse to his grandchildren through a protected family trust.
Michael had managed the land but never owned the right to surrender it.
Hale’s seed loan was invalid without Emma and her little brother receiving independent representation.
Charles Hale dismissed the discovery.
“A child cannot run a farm.”
Emma tightened her grip on the leash.
“A billionaire did not run this one either. My parents did.”
Daniel produced payment records showing Hale collected federal drought relief, heating assistance and school-lunch reimbursements for dozens of tenant families. He then reported those same families as having received too much aid, causing their applications to be rejected.
Sarah held up her rejection letter.
“You stole the help first, then called us undeserving.”
Hale threatened to call the sheriff.
Emma replied, “Call him. I want him to explain my signature.”
A patrol vehicle arrived before Hale reached his phone.
