Chapter 5 - The Father Who Erased Her Mother
Thomas Reed was found alive in a secured cottage behind the clinic. He admitted helping Eleanor design marital-control agreements, believing temporary guardianships would protect worker heirs. Eleanor turned them into tools for stealing ownership. Olivia stared at him. “You built the door they used to lock women away.” Thomas lowered his head. “I thought I could control the system.” Grant laughed. “Your working-class hero wanted power too.” Thomas answered, “The difference is that I will testify against myself.” Olivia’s legal claim did not come through him. It came from her mother, Ana Morales, a vineyard picker whose wages helped save the estate. Eleanor had told Olivia that Ana died during childbirth. Rosa opened a sealed personnel file. Ana had survived and spent twenty-five years in a state institution after refusing to surrender her shares. The commitment order carried Thomas’s genuine signature—and Olivia had been raised by the man who helped erase her mother.
