Chapter 8 - The Certificate Rosa Hid

Rosa revealed her husband, Mateo, had been the estate chaplain and worker organizer. Eleanor threatened to cancel his cancer treatment unless he filed Olivia’s marriage certificate. Mateo complied and died believing he had betrayed the workers. Rosa knew the certificate was false but stayed silent until the attack. Olivia faced her. “You protected his memory while Emily remained legally trapped.” Rosa answered, “I was ashamed that the man I loved chose fear.” The worker council kept her as a witness but removed her from leadership. Emily testified that Grant confined her after she found evidence linking Eleanor to pesticide dumping by worker housing. The wedding scheme hid more than stolen shares; it silenced environmental claims. Maya found records showing children had been treated for exposure while the estate billed a cleanup fund. Then Ana produced a photograph of Thomas supervising the dumping site. Thomas whispered, “Eleanor ordered it.” Ana replied, “And you wore the hard hat.”
