Ethan recognized his electronic signature on an emergency psychiatric authorization.
He had signed it hours after the twins were born, when Victoria told him Grace was suffering a dangerous postpartum crisis.
“I thought it allowed treatment for one night.”
Maya’s voice stayed cold. “It allowed your mother to choose the doctor, the facility and every person Grace could contact.”
Ethan did not defend himself.
“I had lawyers and time. Grace had medication in her bloodstream. Investigate my part.”
The diner manager tried to send Maya back to the kitchen because guests were complaining. Ethan turned toward him.
“She is discussing a missing patient, and you are worried about coffee refills?”
Maya stopped him. “Do not rescue me by speaking over me.”
She called the police herself and preserved the diner cameras.
A detective opened the hospital authorization archive. Grace had been transferred under the alias Claire Bennett to a private rehabilitation center owned by the Cole Foundation.
The transfer record showed she was still alive six months ago.
