Eleanor denied knowing about the deed, but her black glove trembled when Noah placed it on the table.
Vincent laughed.
“Housekeepers accepted wages. They did not purchase a dynasty.”
An elderly server named Ruth stepped forward.
“Our families surrendered twenty percent of every paycheck when your grandfather could not pay the mortgage.”
Lila explained that the deed had been hidden behind a false wall in the archive room. She found it while preparing the gala exhibition.
Vincent ordered her to surrender it. When she refused, he called her unstable and locked her away until the guests left.
Noah faced his father.
“You turned a witness into a family embarrassment because you thought poor people were easier to erase.”
Eleanor finally admitted the signature was hers.
She had witnessed the agreement at nineteen, then helped Vincent’s father remove the workers’ names from county records.
Before Noah could respond, Ruth produced a recent property filing.
