Chapter 2 - THE THREAT BEFORE THE FALL

The security footage rewound twelve minutes.
Emily entered the dining hall alone, holding a sealed hospital envelope with trembling hands. The room was already full of guests preparing for a private engagement announcement—one that was supposed to secure a dynasty.
Victoria blocked her path immediately. No witnesses intervened. No one stopped her.
“You don’t belong in this world,” Victoria said softly, almost kindly. “Ethan will marry into the Whitmore family tonight. You were never part of that future.”
Emily stood still, refusing to retreat.
“You were his mistake,” Victoria continued. “Men like Ethan don’t build empires with women who grew up above laundromats.”
A few guests outside the door laughed quietly, as if poverty itself was inappropriate behavior.
Emily placed the envelope on the glass table.
“It says the baby is Ethan’s.”
The room shifted.
Victoria’s expression tightened—not in fear, but calculation.
Then she offered something no one expected.
“Two million dollars. Walk away. Disappear before this becomes ugly.”
Emily didn’t move.
Victoria leaned closer, voice dropping into something colder.
“If Ethan ever learns what his mother did to your first child… this entire family burns.”

That sentence changed everything.
Because from the hallway, Ethan’s mother was already watching.
