Chapter 4 - THE CHILD THEY ERASED

Thirty-two years of service. Thirty-two years of silence.

Mrs. Alvarez had never been allowed to sit at the Blackwood table. Tonight, she stood in front of it.

She described the night Emily gave birth—how the baby cried strong enough to echo through the maternity wing. How nurses celebrated. How everything changed after Eleanor arrived.

“She paid them,” the housekeeper said. “She changed the record.”

Emily’s knees nearly gave out.

Victoria snapped, “She’s confused. She’s a disgruntled employee.”

Mrs. Alvarez calmly placed a brass key on the table.

“You already fired me last month. I just didn’t leave.”

The key opened a hidden safe behind the wine cellar.

Ethan called the police.

Inside the safe: contracts, transfers, adoption files.

Mrs. Alvarez’s final words froze the room.

“The buyer listed here… is Victoria’s mother.”
