She warned Karen not to cause visible injury because the family needed sympathy, not a criminal charge.
Karen asked what would happen if Emily called the police.
William answered that no jury would believe a baker’s daughter over three respected members of the Whitmore family.
Those words spread across social media after James authorized the release through his attorney.
For the first time, the family’s private class prejudice became public.

Karen changed her story immediately.
She said William and Diane had manipulated her.
