Chapter 10 - The Second VideoThe second recording was dated six weeks earlier.

Ava had filmed it accidentally while testing her new phone.
Eleanor and the family attorney stood alone in the dining room.
The cream trust folder was already on the table.
Daniel had not yet entered.
Eleanor said:
“Emily must look unstable before Lily’s next birthday.”
The attorney asked:
“Why that deadline?”
Eleanor opened the trust schedule.
“Because at seven, Lily’s voting shares become irrevocable.”
Emily stopped breathing.
Lily’s birthday was in twelve days.
The attorney continued:
“If Emily remains primary guardian, she controls the vote until Lily is twenty-five.”
Eleanor answered:
“Exactly.”
Daniel looked sick.
His mother had not merely reacted to the fever.
The entire dinner had been timed.
The illness had given them an opportunity.
Then the attorney asked:
“Does Daniel know the full value?”
Eleanor smiled.
“He knows about the company.”
A pause.
“He does not know about the land.”
Everyone in the room froze.
Emily looked at Ava.
“What land?”
The teenager continued the video.
The attorney opened a second document.
The Hale company’s hospitals, offices and suburban developments sat on property held by Lily’s trust.
Property once owned by Emily’s working-class grandparents before a predatory foreclosure forced them out.
Emily stared at the screen.
Her family had not entered the Hale dynasty through marriage.
The Hale dynasty had been built on land taken from hers.
Eleanor said:
“If Emily learns the truth, she won’t just control the company.”
The attorney asked:
“What will she control?”
Eleanor answered:
“Every lease under it.”
Silence.
Hospitals.
Corporate offices.
Family properties.
Even the mansion.
All dependent on land belonging to Lily.
Daniel stared at his mother.
“You knew.”
Eleanor said nothing.
Emily looked at the dining room where she had been told women from her background panicked because they did not understand proper care.
Then she placed one hand on Lily’s shoulder.
She did not smile.
She did not raise her voice.
She only said:
“You spent years treating us like guests.”
A pause.
“You were living on our land.”
Eleanor went white.
Then the mansion doorbell rang.
A courier stood outside holding a sealed property file addressed to Lily.
Emily opened it.
Inside was the original foreclosure ledger.
And one handwritten note from Daniel’s late grandfather:
The Hales did not take this land legally. Eleanor knows who forged the deed.
Emily slowly looked up.
Eleanor backed away from the table.
And Ava whispered:
May you like
“My camera was recording the night she admitted that too.”
