SHE BEGGED IN HER OWN HOUSE / Chapter 3 / 10

Chapter 3 - THE HUSBAND WHO SIGNED THE OFFER.

Ethan admitted his company had submitted the offer, but he claimed the property department told him Margaret owned the estate.

Claire stared at him.

“You announced that this house was mine only after signing an agreement to buy it from someone else?”

He did not hide behind his executives.

“My signature created leverage against you, whether I understood the title or not.”

Margaret smiled as though his failure rescued her.

Claire stopped her.

“His negligence does not erase your cruelty.”

The purchase agreement required Claire to be declared an unauthorized occupant before closing. Attached to it was a psychiatric evaluation describing her as emotionally unstable because of pregnancy.

Claire had never met the doctor.

The evaluation cited her refusal to obey Margaret as evidence of paranoia and aggression.

Ava whispered, “That doctor came when Mommy would not sign.”

Ethan requested every evaluation connected to the family.

The physician had declared six women incompetent.

All six had property the Mercers later acquired.
