SHE BEGGED IN HER OWN HOUSE / Chapter 5 / 10

Chapter 5 - THE RECORDING ETHAN COULD NOT EXPLAIN.

The footage showed Hannah weak from cancer treatment while Margaret placed transfer papers before her.

Ethan’s voice came through a speakerphone.

“Do whatever is necessary to secure the family vote.”

Ethan went pale.

He remembered the call. Margaret had told him a hostile investor was attempting to seize Hannah’s shares.

“I never knew Hannah was in the room.”

Ava’s eyes filled with tears.

“You heard her crying.”

Ethan closed his eyes. The recording confirmed it. He had asked no questions because the transaction benefited the company.

Claire’s voice remained controlled.

“You did not lock that door, but you trained yourself not to hear suffering when paperwork promised profit.”

Ethan resigned as chief executive pending an independent review.

Margaret accused Claire of destroying her husband.

Claire answered, “Accountability is not destruction. What you did to Hannah was.”

The full video showed Hannah refusing to sign.

Then Richard Mercer, Ethan’s uncle, entered the room and used Hannah’s hand to mark the page.

The document Ava carried was not the transfer.

It was Hannah’s handwritten will.
