Chapter 1 - THE CHILD THEY PULLED FROM THE PIANO.

Six-year-old Noah played the grand piano with a soft smile while wealthy guests whispered that a maid’s child had forgotten his place.

Vanessa Harrington stormed forward.

“Who gave you permission to touch that piano?”

She pulled him away from the bench. His mother, Elena, rushed in and wrapped both arms around him.

“He did nothing wrong!”

Then Julian Harrington entered through the ballroom doors.

Vanessa pointed at Elena.

“That maid and her child had no right to be here.”

Julian knelt beside Noah, checked that he was safe and rose with controlled fury.

“Because he is my son, and she is the woman I love. You are no longer welcome in this house.”

The guests froze.

Vanessa’s face emptied of color.

Then Noah reached beneath the piano bench and lifted a sealed envelope he had found beside the pedals.

Across the front, in Julian’s late father’s handwriting, were the words:

“FOR THE BOY WHO CAN PLAY THE SONG I NEVER TAUGHT MY FAMILY.”
