Chapter 2 - THE SONG THAT OPENED THE PIANO.

Julian opened the envelope while Vanessa demanded that security remove Elena and Noah.

Inside was a handwritten score and a notarized statement from his father, Arthur Harrington.

The statement said the grand piano had been purchased with money withheld from cooks, maids, drivers and gardeners during the family’s bankruptcy.

In exchange, those workers had been promised shares in Harrington Music Hotels.

Vanessa laughed.

Elena looked at the chandeliers above them.

“My mother cleaned this room at night while your family held charity dinners about poverty.”

Noah played the first four notes written on Arthur’s score.

A hidden compartment opened beneath the keyboard.

Inside was the original worker ledger.

The final page named Elena’s late mother as trustee of fifty-one percent of the company.
