Chapter 5 - THE FATHER WHO SIGNED HER MOTHER AWAY.

Daniel admitted signing the false evaluations after Eleanor threatened to revoke his medical license and report Elena’s undocumented grandmother.

“I thought keeping my career would keep our family safe.”

Elena’s voice broke.

“You kept your title and let Mom lose her name.”

Daniel did not ask forgiveness.

He surrendered his license and handed investigators Rosa’s file.

The records showed Rosa survived the night Elena was told she had died. She was transferred under another identity to a private rehabilitation home in Vermont.

Eleanor called the transfer compassionate.

Margaret answered, “A locked room does not become kindness because the sheets are expensive.”

Julian ordered a search for Rosa.

Vanessa tried to leave, but Noah pointed toward her silver clutch.

“She put Grandma’s key inside.”

The key opened a deposit box containing worker deeds, pension records and a recent photograph.

Rosa stood alive outside the Vermont facility.

Beside her was Julian.

Elena turned toward him.

“You already knew where my mother was.”
