Chapter 2 - THE WOMAN INSIDE WAS WEARING A UNIFORM.

Robert unlocked the bathroom with the estate master key.

Inside sat Sofia Reyes, a banquet supervisor in a black service uniform, one hand pressed against her shoulder and the other gripping the counter. She was shaken but conscious.

Diane looked at her as if the uniform itself were an accusation.

“What were you doing in the bridal suite?”

Sofia answered, “Trying to stop your son from drinking what you put in his glass.”

Diane’s face did not change.

“You entered a private bedroom during a family wedding. That is trespassing.”

Isabella stared at her.

“She showed us a video.”

Diane replied coldly, “Employees record wealthy families because scandal pays better than honest work.”

Sofia laughed without humor.

“Honest work paid me twenty-two dollars an hour to protect guests your family charges fifty thousand dollars a night to host.”

Cameron rubbed his temples.

He remembered drinking champagne, hearing Diane argue with Sofia, and then feeling as though the room tilted. He remembered Isabella asking him to open the door. He also remembered accusing her of marrying him for money.

Isabella looked at him.

“You called my father a field hand who raised a daughter above her station.”

Cameron lowered his eyes.

“I said it.”

Sofia unlocked her phone.

The full video showed Diane near the glass—but another hand entered the frame first.

It wore Robert’s burgundy cuff link.

Robert looked down at his sleeve.

One cuff link was missing.
