Chapter 3 - THE FATHER WHO NEVER RAISED HIS VOICE.

Robert denied touching Cameron’s drink.

Diane immediately defended him.

“My husband does not sneak around bedrooms. That is behavior for staff and opportunists.”

Sofia enlarged the video.

The hand belonged to a man wearing Robert’s tuxedo jacket, but the skin was younger and the wedding band was absent.

Someone had dressed like him.

Cameron looked toward the closet.

His spare tuxedo jacket was gone.

Isabella asked why anyone wanted Cameron impaired on his wedding night.

Diane answered before he could.

“Because this marriage should never have happened.”

The words landed harder than a slap.

Isabella’s father owned a small vineyard outside Fresno. Her mother had cleaned tasting rooms and packed grapes during harvest season. The Whitmores had spent the entire engagement introducing them as “local agricultural people,” never as family.

Diane stepped closer.

“You think wearing lace changes where you came from? You are a vineyard worker’s daughter standing inside a dynasty.”

Isabella rose carefully.

“And you are a dynasty standing on land people like my family worked until their backs gave out.”

Robert ordered Diane to stop.

She turned on him.

“You agreed she was unsuitable.”

Sofia checked the bathroom’s hidden audio file.

A male voice said:

“Once Cameron signs the incapacity clause, the bride leaves with nothing.”

The speaker was not Robert.

It was Cameron’s best man, Julian Whitmore.

And Julian was missing from the reception.
