Chapter 3 - THE STATEMENT HE FORCED HER TO REPEAT.
The footage showed Richard kneeling in front of Lily near the service corridor.
“Say your mother told you to lie about the trust.”
Lily shook her head.
Richard’s voice became colder.
“No judge will believe a child raised by banquet workers. Say it correctly, and I might let your mother keep visiting you.”
The ballroom fell silent.
Emma did not scream. Richard’s attorneys had spent years describing her anger as instability, and she refused to give them another sentence to edit.
“You threatened our daughter to manufacture a custody case.”
Richard pointed toward the guests.
“I was protecting her from a woman obsessed with money.”
Lily answered before Emma could.
“Mom wanted the money returned to the hotel workers.”
The document in Richard’s hand was not a child’s statement. It was an emergency guardianship petition claiming Emma had manipulated Lily against the wealthy side of her family.
Once approved, Richard would control Lily’s trust.
Then the recording revealed someone standing behind him.
The bride, his younger sister Caroline, had watched the entire conversation.
Richard looked toward the head table.
