Chapter 2 - THE DEAN WHO CALLED HER UNSTABLE.
Dean Richard Vale arrived with university lawyers before the police detective assigned to Lily’s case.
He expressed concern, then described Lily as emotionally fragile and overwhelmed by academic pressure.
Daniel stared at him.
“My daughter reported an assault, and your first defense is that she cannot be trusted?”
Vale said the university had a duty to protect its reputation and students from speculation.
“Reputation does not need a hospital bed,” Daniel replied.
Lily’s roommate, Tessa Monroe, called Daniel secretly. She said Lily had discovered that scholarship students were being pressured to work unpaid hours in private laboratories.
Students who complained lost housing, financial aid or campus jobs.
Wealthy families called the program mentorship.
Lily called it exploitation.
Vale denied knowing anything about it.
Then Tessa sent Daniel a photograph taken before the attack.
Lily stood outside the science building holding a folder.

In Andrew’s hand was Lily’s blue hoodie.
