Chapter 4 - THE BROTHER WHO CLOSED THE FIRST REPORT.
Michael Mercer had worked campus security for twelve years.
He insisted he found Lily alone and called emergency services immediately.
Daniel placed the deleted-camera log before him.
“You signed the report saying no usable footage existed before anyone reviewed the server.”
Michael looked toward the lawyers.
“The dean said a public scandal would cost hundreds of jobs.”
Daniel answered, “Poor employees are always used as shields when wealthy men protect one son.”
Michael admitted taking the USB drive but claimed he had not deleted the original clip.
Vale promised to preserve staff pensions if Michael handled the case quietly.
Lily’s mother had died when Daniel was deployed, and Michael had helped raise her. His betrayal cut deeper than any stranger’s lie.
Then Michael surrendered the drive.
The footage showed Andrew arguing with Lily, but he walked away before she was hurt.
Seconds later, a woman entered the frame wearing a faculty coat.
Daniel recognized her immediately.
