Chapter 6 - THE LABORATORY BUILT UNDER THEIR NAMES.

The basement door opened with Lily’s stolen campus credentials.

Inside were unfinished defense prototypes, student time sheets and stacks of nondisclosure agreements.

Scholarship students had built the equipment.

Donor families owned the patents.

Dean Vale called it normal university partnership.

Daniel replied, “Normal exploitation is still exploitation.”

A custodian named Rosa Alvarez revealed that her son had worked in the basement before disappearing from campus three years earlier.

The university said he withdrew voluntarily.

Rosa had cleaned Vale’s office at night and found his withdrawal letter unsigned.

“They searched my locker when I asked questions,” she said. “A dean’s word became evidence. A cleaner’s grief became misconduct.”

Investigators found medical supplies, sedatives and restraints used for emergency research drills, but no record of authorized training.

Lily’s student card had accessed the lab at 10:42 p.m.

Another card entered one minute later.

It belonged to Daniel.
