Chapter 9 - The Nurse in Thomas’s Car
Melanie admitted she had been working for Thomas as a young private nurse.
He promised to help recover Caleb if she monitored Julia and reported where she went.
Melanie followed the car but insisted she never caused the crash.
“I betrayed Julia because they held my son over my head.”
David’s voice hardened.
“She died while you were bargaining for your own child.”
Melanie did not hide behind tears.
“Yes. I chose Caleb. Julia paid the price. I have lived with that cowardice every day.”
Rebecca revealed she was in the passenger seat.
Thomas had ordered them to bring Julia back before she reached federal authorities.
Julia refused to stop.
A Whitmore security vehicle forced her from the road.
Thomas arranged the cover-up.
Melanie and Rebecca remained silent because each had been promised something she desperately needed.
Evelyn smirked.
“Everyone has a price.”
Melanie turned toward her.
“No. Powerful people create desperation, then call the victim corrupt for accepting the only door left open.”
Both women surrendered to investigators and agreed to testify without guaranteed immunity.
The reopened case connected Thomas, Evelyn and Pierce to Julia’s death and dozens of medical conspiracies.
A federal jury indicted Evelyn.
She was escorted from the Connecticut estate while former employees stood on the front steps.
No servant entrance remained open for her escape.
Then prosecutors recovered Thomas’s final succession plan.
It named Melanie—not David—as the legal owner of Whitmore Health.
Thomas had transferred the company to her years earlier.
Her signature appeared beneath the agreement.
Melanie stared at it.
