Mrs. Rosa Alvarez was found alive at a rehabilitation center on Chicago’s South Side. She was alert, furious and asking for her orange cat, Sol.

Vivian had reported Rosa dead, cleared her apartment and raised the rent by forty percent. Sol was labeled abandoned and transferred through a private rescue contractor.

“You erased a woman because her lease was cheaper than the market,” Maya said.

Vivian insisted the death notice came from corporate records.

Grant produced the source. It had been uploaded from Vivian’s office minutes after Rosa refused a buyout.

Reed located Sol safe in a luxury penthouse owned by a board donor. The donor claimed she had paid a “rehoming contribution” to the building’s pet charity.

Rosa’s rent ledger showed that same charity charged low-income tenants monthly animal-protection fees.

“They paid you to protect their pets,” Maya said. “You sold the pets and took the homes.”
