Chapter 6 - THE FAMILY EVICTED FOR SAVING PIPER.

Leo and his mother, Nina Brooks, were located in temporary housing. Nina had found Piper wandering near the loading dock six months earlier and protected her until Maya arrived.
Vivian accused Nina of theft, canceled her employee housing and threatened to call child services if she challenged the eviction.
Maya stared at Piper.
“You punished a mother for keeping my cat safe.”
Nina did not allow gratitude to erase Maya’s secrecy.
“You owned the company while my son slept in a shelter.”
Maya accepted suspension as chairwoman pending an independent tenant vote. She placed her dividends into restitution and surrendered control of the investigation.
Jonathan tried to defend her.
Rosa stopped him.
“Being better than Vivian is not the same as being accountable.”
The tenant council froze all luxury conversions and restored Nina’s housing.
Then Reed recovered hallway footage from the night Piper vanished.
Maya herself had placed the cat near the loading dock.

Nina looked at her.
“You used Piper to test Vivian?”
