Chapter 10 - THE SECOND CHILD IN THE PHOTOGRAPH.
Anna revealed that she and Grant had married secretly before Lily’s birth. Grant wanted access to the employee trust, and Anna believed marriage would force him to honor it.
When she discovered the warehouse evidence, he erased the marriage, confined her and later courted Vanessa to secure her legal influence.
Vanessa faced Anna.
“He used both of us differently because he believed class would keep us divided.”
The court voided Grant’s transfers, restored worker ownership and reopened the warehouse settlements. The mansion became cooperative housing, a labor archive and a child-advocacy center.
Grant, Judge Ashford and the clinic executives faced trial. Eleanor and Vanessa testified about their own failures without demanding redemption.
The hidden photograph, recorder and brass key were displayed beneath glass.
A plaque read:
“HE SAID THE CHILD DID NOT BELONG IN A HOUSE HER MOTHER’S COURAGE HAD SAVED.”
At the opening, Lily found a second photograph behind the first.
It showed Anna holding another little girl beside Grant.
