Chapter 7 - THE DOOR VANESSA REFUSED TO OPEN.

Vanessa admitted visiting the clinic after receiving an anonymous message. Grant’s security chief warned that if she entered Anna’s room, Lily would be moved to another state.

“I stood outside and chose to gather evidence first.”

Anna’s voice remained steady.

“You chose a better case over one locked door.”

Vanessa accepted the judgment and stepped away from Lily without asking the child to forgive her.

Rosa told the ballroom, “Fear explains delay. It does not turn delay into courage.”

The security chief, Thomas Reed, surrendered the threat recordings and admitted monitoring Anna, Vanessa and Lily for Grant.

He claimed he stayed because his salary supported his disabled father.

A server answered, “Working people have families too. That is why powerful men recruit our fear.”

Thomas provided access to Grant’s private archive.

Inside were contracts transferring employee shares whenever a worker was declared incompetent, criminal or absent.

One transfer carried Lily’s tiny fingerprint.

It had been taken at the hospital on the day she was born.
