Eleanor admitted signing an emergency custody petition after Grant’s attorneys claimed Anna planned to flee Virginia.
“I believed temporary separation would keep Lily safe.”
Rosa answered, “Wealthy families call separation temporary because they are not the ones counting nights.”
The petition described Anna as unstable, dishonest and obsessed with class resentment. It had been drafted before any examination.
The judge who approved it, Malcolm Ashford, was Eleanor’s brother.
Eleanor surrendered her authority over the estate and asked the employee council to review every decision she had made.
Grant accused her of betraying family.
She replied, “Family stopped being a defense when you used it as a weapon.”
Then auditors traced the legal fees for Anna’s confinement to a charitable fund created for injured warehouse workers.
Lily’s private school tuition had also been paid from that account.
Vanessa placed the benefit under review.
