Chapter 6 - THE SIGNATURE VANESSA COULD NOT DENY.

Vanessa remembered signing annual foundation approvals after being told the fund supported worker families and Lily’s education.
Rosa placed a rejected medical claim beside her signature.
“My sister’s therapy was denied the same week you approved the tuition.”
Vanessa did not hide behind ignorance.
“I accepted the board’s summary because the system benefited someone I loved. Put every dollar under restitution review.”
Grant seized on her admission.
“You are no different from us.”
“No,” Vanessa answered. “The difference is that I will not use another person’s wrongdoing to erase mine.”
The employee council suspended Vanessa from handling the evidence while allowing her to testify.
Federal investigators opened the clinic account and found Anna had secretly paid legal fees for other workers using money Grant offered her for silence.
Then Anna appeared by secure video.
Her first words were not for Lily.
“Ask Vanessa why she visited me last year and left without opening the door.”

Lily looked up at Vanessa.
“You knew where Mommy was?”
