Chapter 1 - THE AMBULANCE BILL THEY REFUSED.

Rose used the long grabber to lift the wet bill onto the metal tray.

“Keep your money. I want to hear what you did to the other workers.”

Daniel opened the sealed witness envelope. Inside was a photograph of night custodian Marcus Bell standing beside an ambulance outside the hotel.

Brooke called him unreliable.

“He was dismissed for sleeping on duty.”

Rose’s expression hardened. Marcus had collapsed after working three double shifts, but Brooke changed his timecard to make the medical emergency look like misconduct. His family lost health coverage the next morning.

Elena ordered every schedule and access log preserved.

Brooke protested that executives could not run a five-star property around “people who could not keep up.”

Rose looked across the marble floor.

“They kept this hotel standing while you treated exhaustion as a character flaw.”

Daniel removed a second item from the envelope: a payroll deduction form for the staff emergency fund.

Marcus had paid into it for eleven years.
