She had accepted a settlement after the hotel threatened to cancel medical coverage for Brooke, then seven years old. Peter promised to deliver her letters and protect the worker clause.
Instead, he used Evelyn’s silence to become chief financial officer and taught Brooke that employees were disposable.
Brooke’s cruelty was not excused.
“You knew what humiliation felt like,” Evelyn said. “You chose to sell it to people below you.”
Brooke finally surrendered her phone and named managers who participated in benefit theft and coerced resignations. Her cooperation remained separate from accountability.
The worker council restored claims, housing and unpaid wages. Marcus and Jamal received independent counsel, not executive charity.
Then Elena reviewed the hotel’s original loan.
Rose’s mother had not merely mortgaged her home.
She transferred the land beneath the hotel into a trust for workers’ families.
The current deed named one surviving trustee.
