THE GIRL HE CALLED A LIAR. / Chapter 6 / 10

Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN USING HIS PASSWORD.

Mrs. Whitmore placed the phone on a table.

She had taken it after Ethan threatened Lucy, but she had not opened the archive.

Security traced the command to a mirrored device registered to Whitmore family counsel, David Sloan.

Sloan emerged from the guests and called the deletion standard risk management.

“This company employs thousands. One sentimental deed cannot be allowed to destabilize investors.”

Marcus answered, “You mean workers can lose homes, but investors must never feel nervous.”

Sloan had drafted the false death report, sealed Lucy’s guardianship and prepared the agreement Ethan put before her.

Ethan claimed he never understood the full plan.

Claire refused to comfort him.

“You had expensive attorneys explaining every profit. You became confused only when someone asked who paid for it.”

Police were summoned, but Sloan smiled.

The original trust could not be enforced without Rose Bennett’s final notarized ledger.

Rose had supposedly died nineteen years earlier.

Then Lucy pointed toward Mrs. Whitmore’s pearl necklace.

One pearl was not round.

It was a tiny metal capsule.
