Ethan remembered the night Claire gave birth.
His father told him reporters had discovered the pregnancy and that Claire planned to sell the story.
He was twenty-nine, angry and desperate to protect an upcoming company vote.
He signed an emergency privacy order without reading the attached infant-transfer authorization.
“I thought I was stopping publicity,” he said.
Claire’s tears did not soften her voice.
“You protected your image so quickly that you never checked whether your child was alive.”
Ethan surrendered his shares and agreed to criminal and civil investigation.
Sloan was arrested for fraud, unlawful confinement and evidence tampering.
The merger was canceled. Worker pensions and ownership rights were restored.
At the hearing, Ethan said he wanted a chance to become Lucy’s father.
Claire answered, “Fatherhood is not a title the court returns because guilt finally became public.”
Lucy remained safely with Claire while independent specialists reviewed custody.
Then Helen delivered Rose Bennett’s final sealed letter.
