Chapter 1 - THE BOWL BESIDE THE TRASH.

Adrian Cole returned to his Manhattan mansion three hours earlier than expected.

The cocktail party stopped sounding elegant the moment he saw his six-year-old daughter sitting on the kitchen floor beside a stainless-steel trash can.

A large white bowl marked “MAYA” rested near her knees.

“Maya?”

She looked up with wet eyes.

“Celeste told me to eat on the floor.”

Across the kitchen, Celeste turned in her coral dress with a satisfied smile.

“She needed to learn respect. Children from unstable homes become entitled when no one corrects them.”

Adrian’s shock sharpened into controlled fury.

“You humiliated my daughter in front of my guests?”

“She embarrassed me first,” Celeste replied. “She asked why the staff ate in the kitchen while donors used the dining room.”

Adrian walked past her, pushed the bowl away, and wrapped his suit coat around Maya.

“You did nothing wrong.”

Then he faced Celeste and pointed at her engagement ring.

“Take it off. This engagement is over.”

Her hand trembled as the diamond touched the marble counter.

“Leave my home. Now.”

Celeste’s smile disappeared.

“You think this house is still yours?”

May you like

She opened her clutch and placed a signed deed beside the ring.

According to the document, Adrian had transferred the mansion to her that morning.
