Chapter 3 - THE MOTHER WHO SIGNED FROM THE GRAVE.
Celeste claimed Elena had survived the car accident that supposedly killed her.
According to Celeste, the Cole family moved Elena into a private medical residence after she suffered memory loss and became “unsafe around Maya.”
Adrian had never seen a body.
His mother told him the injuries were too severe for an open casket.
He had accepted the explanation because grief made obedience feel easier than questions.
Maya stared at him.
“You said Mommy was in heaven.”
Adrian lowered his head.
“I believed what they told me.”
Celeste laughed softly.
“That is the difference between people like you and people like Maya’s mother. Rich men are called grieving when they stop asking questions. Poor women are called irresponsible if they miss one form.”
She produced a recent video of Elena signing documents at a clinic.
The woman looked weak, confused, and heavily medicated.
The deed might be legally void if she lacked capacity, but Celeste had already prepared an answer.
A physician’s report declared Elena fully competent.
The doctor worked for the Cole Foundation.
Adrian ordered security to contact police.
The guard shook his head.
Celeste had replaced the mansion’s security contract two days earlier.
Then Nora, Maya’s former nanny, stepped forward from the catering staff.
She had secretly filmed the kitchen before Adrian arrived.
The footage showed Celeste carrying the labeled bowl from the dog-washing room.
