Chapter 2 - THE DEED HE NEVER MEANT TO SIGN.

Adrian recognized his signature, but not the document.

Celeste said he had signed it inside a stack of wedding-planning papers before leaving for Chicago.

“You were too busy to read. Wealthy men usually call that trust.”

Adrian stared at the deed.

“You hid a property transfer beneath catering contracts?”

Celeste shrugged.

“I protected my future. Maya’s mother already taught me what happens when women trust men with everything.”

The guests began whispering.

Several looked at Adrian with sudden doubt, as though a polished deed outweighed the child still shaking under his jacket.

Celeste ordered mansion security to escort Adrian and Maya out.

The head guard hesitated.

Adrian had employed him for twelve years.

Celeste lifted the deed.

“Your paycheck follows ownership.”

Maya clutched her father’s hand.

“Are we poor now?”

Celeste answered before Adrian could.

“Your father may finally learn what ordinary people feel when someone else controls the roof.”

Adrian’s voice went cold.

“You made a child eat beside garbage, and now you want to teach us hardship?”

He called the family attorney.

The attorney confirmed the deed had been filed.

Then he revealed the witness.

Maya’s late mother, Elena Cole, had supposedly signed the transfer.

Elena had been dead for four years.

May you like

Celeste smiled faintly.

“Then perhaps she is not as dead as you were told.”
