The third child, Maya Hale, had been born minutes after Lily and Grace and transferred to a wealthy donor family through Celeste’s initiative.
Hannah had been told the baby died. The donor family paid a “legacy contribution” large enough to launch the entire program.
Maya was located safely in Boston. Any contact would proceed slowly through independent child advocates, not through a forced reunion.
The courts voided the petitions, restored the twins’ education fund and blocked the luxury sale. The apartment company became a tenant-worker benefit corporation. Former trainees received unpaid wages, scholarships and restitution.
Celeste, Robert, Dr. Cross and complicit executives lost authority and faced trial. Marcus and Hannah could rebuild their family only on boundaries the children chose.
The maid dresses, fingerprint forms and sealed commitment order entered a public child-labor archive.
At its opening, Lily discovered another document inside the safe.
