Chapter 1 - THE LIVESTREAM DAVID FORGOT.

David pressed Frank’s trembling hand toward the house-transfer contract.
“Sign it, Dad. Then you can go home.”
Twelve-year-old Ethan held his phone at chest level and noticed the marks around his grandfather’s wrist.
“Grandpa, blink twice if they will not let you leave.”
Frank blinked twice.
The dining room fell silent.
David released him and claimed dementia had confused the boy. He took Ethan’s phone, unaware the livestream continued from the locked screen.
Ethan removed Thanksgiving cards from Frank’s coat. Dates and medication names were written on the backs.
“The white pill makes me forget what I signed,” Frank said.
Nurse Mary checked the chart.
“This medication was never prescribed.”
Director Collins ordered Ethan removed. Mary stepped between the child and the door.
Then David whispered to Laura, “Once the house is ours, he stays here forever.”
A phone alert sounded. Thousands had heard him.
Frank straightened.
“I founded the pension trust that financed this building.”

Mary opened a hidden cabinet. The first file carried a photograph of Frank’s supposedly deceased wife, Margaret.
But the patient name beneath it was Eleanor Reed.
