Chapter 7 - THE COUPLE THEY KEPT FROM REMEMBERING.
Frank’s alias file showed three admissions over the previous year, each arranged by David after Frank questioned missing trust payments.
During those stays, staff changed his medication and returned him home with gaps in memory. The photograph with Margaret came from an accidental courtyard meeting.
David claimed he was preventing two confused elders from hurting each other.
Margaret, brought safely into the dining room, looked at her son.
“You kept us apart because together we remembered what you stole.”
She recalled Thomas ordering files burned. Frank remembered Collins offering to return his house if he resigned from the trust.
Thomas accused them of building a story from dementia.
Nurse Mary answered, “Impairment does not make every wealthy accuser truthful.”
The review panel froze David’s accounts and removed Collins and Price from duty.
Then Margaret revealed she had hidden the original trust ledger before her alias admission.
She placed it with one of Frank’s former students—now Pennsylvania’s attorney general.
The doors opened.
