Chapter 4 - THE DEAD MOTHER STILL BEING BILLED.
Laura stepped away from David.
“My mother worked here for one summer.”
The witness, Patricia Lane, had signed capacity forms for residents whose homes or pensions later passed to relatives. Laura insisted she knew nothing.
Frank did not excuse her.
“You benefited from the house David expected to take.”
Laura admitted their mortgage application listed Frank’s property as future collateral. She had signed without reading the attachment.
Ethan answered quietly, “Adults always say they did not read it after a child loses something.”
Director Collins tried to end the dinner, citing privacy. Police entered before security moved.
Nurse Mary gave them the livestream, medication chart and hidden files.
Frank invoked the pension-trust charter. A coercion finding allowed him to suspend the facility board and appoint an independent review panel.
The audit showed residents with modest homes were overmedicated, declared incompetent and kept after insurance stopped paying. Wealthier residents were discharged quickly.
