Daniel remembered signing the papers during a board dinner.
Eleanor had described them as routine insurance renewals.
He had lawyers, assistants, and every privilege necessary to ask questions.
He did not.
Claire refused to let him hide inside embarrassment.
“My mother had a tenth-grade education and still read every line because one mistake could cost us rent. You signed blindly because mistakes never landed on you.”
Eleanor defended him.
“He trusted his family. That is not a crime.”
Rosa answered, “No. But your family built its fortune on rich men signing and poor workers suffering.”
The dissolution papers transferred the employees’ shares into a development company controlled by Eleanor.
That company planned to replace staff housing with luxury villas.
Families who had served the estate for generations would receive thirty days to leave.
Eleanor called it modernization.
Claire called it eviction with landscaping.
Daniel revoked his approval and surrendered temporary authority to an independent employee board.
Then the estate attorney arrived with a court order.
It declared Claire mentally incompetent.
