Inside the compartment was a waterproof metal box filled with payroll ledgers, land deeds, and recordings made by Teresa.
The automatic cover would have crushed the box against the track if it had fully closed.
Eleanor had pushed Claire into the pool to create panic while the evidence disappeared beneath them.
The ledgers proved the Vale Foundation had diverted hurricane-relief donations into private estates, political dinners, and Daniel’s investment portfolio.
Daniel’s name appeared throughout the files.
He had approved projects described as “community redevelopment” without visiting a single neighborhood.
Claire looked at him.
“Families lost homes while you praised growth from a ballroom.”
Daniel answered, “I believed the reports.”
“That belief was a luxury they could not afford.”
Eleanor accused Claire of destroying jobs and donor confidence.
Rosa’s response was immediate.
“You stole our wages, then hid behind our employment when the police arrived.”
Federal agents froze the foundation’s accounts.
Eleanor, the doctor, and the security director were detained.
Then Teresa’s final recording played.
She said Eleanor had not created the scheme.
Someone above her controlled the foundation and ordered Claire’s commitment.
