THE NANNY SHE FRAMED / Chapter 2 / 10

Chapter 2 - THE KEY BEHIND BEN’S PHOTOGRAPH.

Victoria claimed she froze the account only after noticing the ring was missing.

The bank timestamp destroyed that excuse. She had submitted the withdrawal before the party began, hours before accusing Ruth.

Ruth looked at her former employer. “You planned the theft before you emptied my bag.”

A family attorney named Mr. Carter arrived and preserved the passbook, payroll records and guest video. Victoria insisted Ruth had no right to create an account for Ben without parental approval.

Ruth answered, “Your husband asked me to protect something for him before he died.”

The room shifted. Victoria’s late husband, Michael Hayes, had supposedly left no personal instructions beyond a corporate will.

Ben opened the back cover of the passbook. A narrow key was taped beneath his photograph.

Ruth said Michael gave it to her after discovering Victoria had borrowed against Ben’s future inheritance.

The key opened a small lockbox in the living-room cabinet.

Inside were letters, canceled checks and a sealed DNA report.

Victoria moved toward it.

Mr. Carter stopped her.

The report named Ruth—not Victoria—as Ben’s legal emergency guardian.
