Chapter 8 - THE BRACELET INSIDE VICTORIA’S CLUTCH.
The bracelet carried Ben’s original hospital number.
Victoria said she kept it because she loved him.
Elena’s expression turned cold. “You kept proof of the mother you erased.”
The security video from Michael’s final visit showed Victoria confronting him in the parking garage. He threatened to expose the adoption, wage theft and false guardianship.
Two days later, he died in a single-car crash.
Investigators found no evidence that Victoria caused the crash, but they discovered she had removed his briefcase before police arrived.
Inside that briefcase had been the original domestic-worker trust.
Victoria finally admitted taking it.
“I was protecting Ben from scandal.”
Ben looked at her. “You protected the house. Ruth protected me.”
The trust revealed workers had contributed emergency wages during the Hayes company collapse. In exchange, they received a permanent ownership stake in the mansion and hotel group.
Victoria had spent years calling their payments loyalty bonuses.
Then Mr. Carter reached the final page.
