THE PHONE HE NEVER SAW / Chapter 9 / 10

Chapter 9 - THE MARRIAGE DESIGNED AS A CAGE.

Claire had believed she met Damon by chance at a museum fundraiser.

Vanessa revealed the meeting was arranged.

Damon’s father knew Anna’s daughter would eventually inherit authority over the employee trust.

He instructed Damon to court Claire, marry her, isolate her from old friends, and persuade her to waive future claims.

When affection failed to produce obedience, the family moved to medical coercion.

Damon denied that the marriage had been entirely false.

“I loved you.”

Claire looked at him without anger now.

“You loved the version of me that never said no.”

He tried to apologize.

She stopped him.

“Do not use regret as another way to make me carry your feelings.”

The state froze the mansion, company shares, and private clinic accounts.

The employee trust gained temporary control over Hale properties.

Pension money would be restored through the sale of vacation homes, art collections, and executive investments.

Anna’s identity was legally returned.

The nine other women declared unstable were given independent attorneys and medical reviews.

Vanessa entered a cooperation agreement but remained charged for her own crimes.

At the hearing, Damon complained that Claire was taking everything his family built.

Rosa answered from the witness table:

“We built it. Your family only learned how to sign its name.”

The judge denied bail.

Then investigators opened the second ledger.

The first payment for Claire’s arranged marriage had not gone to Damon.

It had gone to Anna Reyes.

Claire turned toward her mother.

Anna whispered, “I can explain.”
