Chapter 6 - THE MOTHER WHO ACCEPTED THEIR MONEY.

Renee entered the mansion under federal protection and faced the daughter who believed she had abandoned her.

Eleanor had offered her a choice: sign papers declaring Isaiah confused or lose the apartment, insurance and custody of Maya.

Renee signed.

“I thought keeping you housed would give me time to fix it.”

Maya’s voice trembled.

“You protected me by letting me hate you.”

Renee did not ask forgiveness.

“I chose under threat, but I still chose.”

Eleanor called the Brooks family dishonest.

Gloria stopped her.

“You manufacture desperation, then display the desperate person as proof they were never equal.”

Renee revealed Isaiah had hidden a second ledger naming every worker family and the amount owed with interest.

The total exceeded six hundred million dollars.

Ryan offered to surrender his inheritance if Maya stopped the criminal case.

“Restitution is not a bargaining chip.”

Then Renee opened Isaiah’s final recording.

He said the person who ordered his confinement was not Eleanor.
