THE RING SHE WAS SLAPPED FOR / Chapter 1 / 10

Chapter 1 - THE RING THAT TOOK HIS COMPANY.

Victoria Sterling pointed at Evelyn Cross in the center of the ballroom.

“Take off that ring, you lying thief!”

Her hand swung. Evelyn touched her cheek after the implied slap while the guests stared.

“You should have asked who gave it to me.”

Victoria stepped closer.

“My husband would never choose someone like you.”

When she reached for Evelyn’s glove, Evelyn blocked her wrist. Victoria’s momentum carried her safely to one knee.

Evelyn removed the glove. A huge pink gemstone flashed beneath the chandeliers.

“Before you call me a thief, ask your husband why his mother put this on my hand.”

Every guest turned toward the ballroom entrance.

Andrew Sterling stood there beside his silver-haired mother, Margaret. His face went white when he saw the ring.

Victoria demanded an explanation.

Margaret ignored her and addressed the hotel board.

“That ring belongs to the controlling trustee of Sterling Grand Hotels.”

Then she looked at Evelyn.

“And tonight, control passes out of my son’s hands.”
