The final clause revealed that Sterling founders had used secret marriages to absorb worker shares from women without public probate.
Lillian Vale had been legally married to Andrew’s father while Margaret was presented publicly as his wife.
Margaret had discovered the duplicate marriage years later and concealed it to protect Andrew’s inheritance.
Victoria faced her.
“You let my mother die believing she had no claim.”
Margaret answered, “I protected my child by helping erase yours.”
No one received automatic authority through blood or marriage.
The worker council recovered the hotels, restored pensions, canceled academy debt and credited every inventor. Andrew, Margaret and cooperating executives faced separate proceedings. Victoria lost her board seat but helped identify the trusts she had promoted.
Evelyn declined permanent control and returned the pink ring to the archive.
Beneath it, the council placed one line:
“THEY CALLED HER A THIEF IN A BALLROOM BUILT FROM STOLEN NAMES.”
During the reopening, the gemstone shifted.
A folded photograph slipped from beneath it.
