Grace Cross arrived with a federal attorney and admitted investing in the debt fund.
Samuel had secretly transferred part of his settlement to her before disappearing. She believed the fund supported scholarships for hotel workers.
Evelyn held up foreclosure files.
“It supported loans designed to take their apartments.”
Grace’s face broke.
“I trusted the brochure because Margaret’s name was on it.”
Rosa answered, “Working people can still help harmful systems when the promise benefits someone they love.”
Grace surrendered the investment and accepted review. Evelyn did not ask the workers to excuse her mother.
The council traced the fund to judges, city officials and Sterling lenders who accelerated evictions near planned luxury developments.
Andrew’s merger depended on buying those buildings cheaply.
Victoria revealed he had asked her to host charity galas for displaced families while his companies purchased their homes.
Then a server delivered an envelope left beneath Evelyn’s plate.
Inside was a photograph of Evelyn wearing the pink ring ten years earlier.
